  I led the class in the Pledge...

  just started back the school year last week.

  first period, the announcements struck up, along with the pledge of allegiance.

  i had since fourth grade refused to say the pledge and explained to my friends why not.

  It would seem to make more sense to simply say: "I pledge allegiance to the United States of America, one nation," etc...

  why does this make any sense at all? if we are freeborn people why are we pledging our life to anyone? welcome to a new mindlessness and borg collective... from one indoctrination to another....

  I always marvel how no protests rise when there is a draft of free people accept when the war is seen as unjust.... why is there no protest at any time? how can a free people ever allow its citizens to be enslaved against their will.... all military service of free people should always be only voluntary... if the people do not feel it a worthy enough cause to fight for, that should be respected.

  I'll try to sum it up this way: our logical-symbolical quest for real is asymptotic. We (as speaking beings) are sitting by the well of Real, but what we can draw from it and drink and offer to others will always be symbolic -- although the others too are sitting by the same well.

  here in lies the first false assumption... we are not sitting by the well of real, only of perception which is a symbolic system in and of itself...its an virtual reality which may or may not symbolize the real... words are 2nd order symbols, triggers that we hope will cause the listener to experience what we have experienced by calling it up from his memory of experiences.

  think of two people chatting on the phone...each of them has a bunch of oddly shaped blocks[personal experiences]... each set of blocks is labelled... person one is building a structure with his blocks and telling person to two to follow along with his same labelled blocks... the problem is that 1 cannot see the shape of 2's blocks. 1 can only hope 2's blocks with the same names have the same shapes... language is thus a program set to build a mental structure which cannot be easily inspected accept by further language testing... leading to many misunderstandings.

  we can hallucinate that we understand each other and not really be talking about the same thing at all... happens many times.

  As I "watch" my mind I observe limitation after limitation. My perception is being cleansed by simply observing the "action". Limitation is declining and something else is coming forward. A different quality of mind .

  Yes I agree, what you are doing is digging into the sources of judgements.... we are always comparing, but not always conscious of what we are comparing things to... by observation and self questioning--- compared to what? over and over again, we can come to a realization of our inner ideals... after that we can examine them and see if they have any validity at all. Does my automatic identification of ugly with bad person pan out in experience? what is it based on? why do I see them ugly in the first place, what am I comparing them to? why is it so compelling to see them that way?

  one theory regarding beauty is that we have an inner template which corrosponds to DNA health...it detects the degree of symmetry and proportions in a persons structure and compares this to the inner stored ideal and find those who are too far from its norm are to be seen as genetically unfit for reproduction, thus UGLY. from that we add layers of unconscious assumption and belief by seeing how others react to such individuals....they are to be avoided socially, in business, in life period....and so our prejudice is built up and reinforced by the same reactions we find in others.... so many blindly follow such prejudices and act on them to the harm of themselves and others.

  you were born into your own mental inventions, no matter how you slice it, the only thing you have ever known and will ever know is your own minds interpretation and symbolization of reality, never reality itself, so you cannot know your true nature, ever, only your own dream about yourself.

  there will always be some gap between what we experience as true and what is true...and that gap has no means of being bridged since we can never get outside our own mental universe to see its true source.

  that is why understanding our limitations is more important in my opinion then understanding our true self which unless I am grossly mistaken, is impossible.

  666 or 616??

  last night, on the discovery channel, they interviewed a researcher who analyzed a scrap of papyrus that recorded revelation.. he contended that the critical passage of the "number of the beast" actually read 616 in greek, not 666. he tried to apply.

  this to caligula thru numerology.. i had never heard of this variant reading before.. .

  In the oldest manuscripts, the number is written in full spelling: hexakosioi hexèkonta hex (the repetition of hex = 6 being similar to our digit writing 666).

  which manuscript might that be? the ones on line in greek do not spell it out.

  what is often overlooked or ignored or unknown is that the number is NOT 666 but [600] [60] [6] or [600] [10] [6]

  it only looks like 666 in english/modern numbers, the greek had different letters for each and so the ominous one shy of 7 for each digit was lost on the ancients....and the "number" looks a lot like sex in greek letters :)

  I think the most important thing to understand is how limited and ignorant we are.... most of human harm and suffering can be traced to mental prisons built out of false certainties and beliefs proclaimed as facts
